Friday Finds

I came across this cutting board on Huffington Post in a section about the best wedding gifts and items found on Etsy – and I absolutely agree. This is the quintessential cutting board for any kitchen, and I am already thinking about who I can gift this to for the holidays. They have a large selection and are customizable in that you can choose something to be laser engraved on some of them, and you can choose what type of wood you would like. According to their website, it takes about 5-6 weeks for order fulfillment; looks like I’d better place my order soon!

Happy Friday (:

My Weekend in iPhone Pictures

This weekend was particularly enjoyable, which helped to ease into the transition of being away from my family and not feeling terribly homesick.

one We went to Spence’s Bazaar in Dover to look for a bar cart (we ended up with this which we love) and we ended up finding an Ethan Allen mirror that I would have a hard time believing was ever used, and is still on EA’s website. Suffice it to say, I fell in love, and we got an awesome deal on it.
two One of the things that I enjoy so much about my boyfriend’s house is there is a pond maybe twenty feet from his backyard and there are always frogs, toads, and bunnies hopping around. I desperately miss my dog and cat back home, so I told him the next one frog I see I’m keeping and will name him Kermie
three I love Wawa, the food, the gas prices, and the delicious snacks, such as the chocolate milkshakes. I don’t often send texts to the wrong people, but now I know what I am going to pick up if I ever do in the future.
four There is a cute little ice cream shop within walking distance of my boyfriend’s house, we took a walk there and enjoyed some pumpkin cheesecake ice cream on the patio outside.
five In my last post, I linked to this and needed to make it. There is a pop-up Halloween store right around the block that had a “bag of bones”. I tried just about every glue possible to keep it together. Boyfriend/handy-man to the rescue – he drilled the pieces together and I mixed some paint to cover the screws.
six< Finished project which I am mildly obsessed with.
seven A local bar hosted a country jam / charity event at Old Dominion Brewery. They had a stage with rotating country bands as well as lots of delicious food and carnival type games and a rock climbing wall and a mechanical bull
eight The sunsets have been absolutely beautiful these past few nights. No filter necessary

Happy Tuesday (night!)

Pumpkin everything

There is just something special about this time of the year… When the weather finally starts to change and you can start wearing fall clothes (!!), when the leaves are changing color, corn mazes, apple picking, hay rides, and pumpkin everything!
Pumpkins, in my opinion, have an inherent relation to Halloween, you cannot have one without the other. I am so excited that it is finally the time of year when apple cider is available everywhere and you don’t have to hide your adoration for everything pumpkin flavored. I am currently on the hunt for a pumpkin bagel – lightly toasted with cream cheese? Yes, please.
Here is a small compilation of pumpkin and Halloween related things that I found on Pinterest (original links included) that I am so looking forward to enjoying this season.

one I love this butternut squash skull, it would make such an awesomely creepy decoration hanging by the front door to welcome guests, or maybe in a big bowl filled with small gourds and brightly colored apples
two Pumpkin pie french toast, need I say more?
three Pumpkin hot (white) chocolate. I can only imagine what this might taste like – pair this with a night in watching Are You Afraid of the Dark and you can’t go wrong
four I need to make this.

What are some of your Halloween favorites?

Free Fallin’

So it’s been way too long since I’ve updated, life got a little crazy, but I recently just made a huge change in my life, and I am hoping to be able to dedicate time here again.
I moved. I moved out of my parents’ house and in with my boyfriend. Out of state. It has been such a bittersweet experience. I am so happy to have taken this huge step in my life, but leaving my family has been the most difficult thing that I have ever done. My mom is my best friend and we did everything together, and it is so hard leaving her knowing that we can’t just go grab lunch or dinner on a whim.
I know that this is the perfect time in my life to do this; venture out on my own and have the experience of a lifetime, but I wish it was right next door to my parents!
The reality of the situation still hasn’t completely sunken in yet. I haven’t yet found a job, and many of my bags remain unpacked. I haven’t been here for a full 24 hours yet, and even though his house is littered with my random things, it still just feels like a weekend visit, but if I were to go home, my room would be empty except for my bed. In this moment I am just free falling. While I was crying yesterday my boyfriend made a point that free falling isn’t the worst thing in the world; at no other point in my life can I have no worry of responsibility.

My boyfriend’s family is spread out over a few states, his parents live in different states than their siblings and parents; so when he left home it was almost like keeping up with the pace. My family on the other hand, has stayed in Connecticut and very few have ventured out. I keep thinking about all of the small things I am going miss and that is one of the more difficult things to come to terms with. But I will be spreading my wings and gaining my own experience. I am excited about what my new path has in store for me, and I hope that you will be there to follow. And any advice about moving away would be helpful!

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth,
…..
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Vintage

I love looking through the vintage stuff on etsy, trying to envision where I might put this, or where I might wear that.
I think this dress is so beautiful.

The cut and color of the dress are so feminine, and the bow adds the perfect accent.
I also found this dress, which I don’t particularly love, but it is so similar to a style that American Eagle has.

I absolutely love this dress! It is an updated vintage style – it is a bodycon dress with a bead and sequin chiffon overlay. So cute for work and for the holidays!

Friday Fashion Finds

I found these earrings two weeks ago during Nordstrom’s half-yearly sale, and fell in love with them! I really do have such a soft spot for all things vintage and vintage inspired. I received these earrings last week and have already worn them quite a few times. They retail for $28 and are marked down to $16.80 (plus free shipping!). You can find them here

I love the simplicity of a peplum along with the beautiful drama it adds at the waist whether it be on a shirt or skirt. This skirt is especially gorgeous as it is a “high-low” peplum and would look great paired with a slightly off white peter pan collared shirt. It retails for $49 and is on sale for $14.99 and can be found here

And just because this is one of the cutest phone cases ever and because Kate Spade makes inherently awesome things…
This case retails for $40 and is on sale for $19.98 here

Happy Friday!
